Meet our Chairperson: Ray Spooner
Marcus Ray Spooner, III “Ray”, is the son of Mark and Lisa Spooner, and grandson of
Gene Cook. Ray is native of Seminole County, and a 2013 Honor Graduate of Southwest
GA Academy. In 2017, Ray graduated Cum Laude from Troy University with the degree
of Bachelor of Science, Surveying and Geomatic Science.
Ray is a partner in Gene Cook & Associates, Inc. a family owned and operated business.
Services provided at GCA include a Real Estate Brokerage and Appraisal Firm, Farm
Land Management Agent, and a Licensed Grain Merchandizer and Logistic Coordinator.
Ray is working closely with his Papa Gene to learn the ins and outs of the Real Estate
Sales and Appraisal services, as well as the Farm Land Management side of the business.
He is a state of Georgia trainee real estate appraiser and a licensed real estate
salesperson.
He enjoys managing the family cattle herd alongside Papa Gene. Working
cows, quail hunting and playing video games with friends are some of his favorite pass
times. Ray is engaged to Courtney Penn, who is a nurse for Dr. Ryan Shingler. Ray and
Courtney will be married at Tahoma Plantation, May 16, 2026. Ray is also Member of
Trinity Crossroad Church, where he serves as Chair of the Administrative Council
Ray has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for the last 2.5
years and is our 2025 Chairperson. In his time with the Chamber, Ray has been a part
of many Chamber events and has also served on the Boots & Roots Rodeo committee for
the last several years. As a Chamber Board member, Ray is always willing to lend a
hand, especially with behind the scenes work that comes with preparing for the
Chamber’s two big annual events, and we appreciate his willingness to help and support
the Chamber!
