Betty Williams Orange, is the daughter of the late Jimmie Lee Battle and Roosevelt Williams. She was married to the late Charlie L. Orange, a daughter, Lynn D. Orange Jones, son-in-law, Wayne Jones, and two amazing grandchildren, Britley Jones and Jordan Jones and daughter Jennifer Godwin.
Orange is a 1971 graduate of Early County High School attending Carver Elementary School and Washington Middle/High School through 1970. She graduated from Albany State University in 1976 with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education. A Master’s degree in Education was awarded through Georgia Southwestern University, in Americus, Georgia; and a Master’s Degree in Administration and Leadership from Troy State University, Dothan, Alabama. She completed studies for an Educational Specialist in Administration and Leadership from NOVA University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Betty Orange began her educational career as an elementary teacher, language arts facilitator and assistant principal at the Early County Elementary School, Blakely, Georgia. She then served as Principal at Early County Middle School, Blakely, Georgia for eleven years. Her next level of educational service was at the Early County Board of Education, in the capacity of curriculum director, Title I Director and concluded in the position of Superintendent of Schools for Early County, retiring in 2007 with a total of 31 years of service in the Early County School System. After retirement from the Early County School System, Betty continued her career at Southwest Georgia RESA in Camilla, Georgia, serving as a One Year Supervised Practicum Supervisor, TAPP Supervisor and School Improvement Specialist with sixteen counties in the SWGA RESA District.
Betty contributes her success in her career to family and friends in her life who mentored, encouraged and supported her endeavors! One of her greatest rewards has been having the opportunity to mentor aspiring teachers to become effective in the classroom by delivering student-centered instructions, and the use of varied resources to meet students’ needs.
Betty has served on countless Boards in the past and currently serves on the Southwest Georgia Hospital Clinic-Secretary Board, Seminole County Library Board, Chamber Board. When it comes to the Chamber, Miss Betty is a model Board member. She makes sure to attend every meeting and event and gives invaluable input in day-to-day operations, but she also plays a crucial role in the planning of our events, as she also serves on the Boots & Roots Rodeo and Harvest Festival committees. In 2024, Betty received the much-deserved Chamber Co-Citizen of the Year award. We are appreciative of everything Miss Betty has contributed to the Chamber and are lucky to have her on our team!
